Follow Up Post: New Coffee Shop Re-Cafe & Starbucks

A follow upon my earlier post about the new coffee shop with local owner (original post: https://faranginbangkok.wordpress.com/2010/10/12/starbucks-in-thailand-and-a-new-coffee-shop/ ) named Re-Café that is located close to a Starbucks: things appear to be going very well for Re Cafe. I stopped in for a cup of coffee this afternoon, it was close to full with a mix to Thai and farang customers.

A walk past Starbucks revealed only a small crowd.

Re Cafe has expanded their offerings to include beer being served in the early evening and lunch items. I have not tried the evening beer or Lunch, but numerous people were eating today.

Bangkok needs more local businesses to keep the offerings unique, I hope Re Cafe continues to succeed (apparently) and more small, local businesses open and provide a local options for food, clothing and entertainment.

An earlier follow up post about Starbucks and Re-Café:

About faranginbangkok

I began working in Bangkok during 2008- a time that featured a great deal of political unrest in Thailand and particularly Bangkok. I had lived in San Francisco for 15 years and was working on a project in Thailand. Generally, I spent 2 weeks in Bangkok and then 3-4 weeks in San Francisco. Did Bangkok begin to feel like home? Yes, and No. Bangkok and the Thai culture forced me to feel many things, the change in culture and environment was so dramatic it forced the decision- embrace or ignore. I embraced and made Bangkok my home and base in 2009. I have enjoyed living in Bangkok, experiencing Thailand and the entire ASEAN region. I moved to Singapore in 2016...fallen behind on this blog since.
